Background
Foster and Partners has achieved an international reputation as the world’s leading architects for innovative design and architecture. They have received more than 260 awards for design excellence and have won over 55 international competitions, receiving the contracts for major projects such as the new Swiss Re tower, the HSBC World Headquarters, and the London Millennium Bridge.
Objective
Foster and Partners had built and designed their new web site in house, but they wanted to make sure that when they launched it would prove robust and the infrastructure would remain stable and secure. They needed a company that could advise them on the successful launch of their new web site.

Result
Imano came on board to test and advise on the launch of the new look-and-feel Foster and Partners web site, the site was built on Macromedia Generator technology linking to a backend SQL server database. The front end comprised both Macromedia Flash and standard HTML elements. Imano developed the following plan to ensure the site launch went smoothly:
- Study site usage stats of the current web site to estimate peak loads.
- Ensure the current infrastructure is built to the software vendor’s requirements based on those loads.
- Make recommendations on robust environment, based on Foster and Partners requirements for site up-time and future demands.
- Ensure the bandwidth is sufficient, based on the estimated load and the site size.
- Conduct web-load testing based on usage scripts running from multiple locations, whilst monitoring the complete hosting environment.
- Report and make recommendations based on our findings.
- Conduct security review of the environment, ensuring disaster recovery measures are in place.
- Make amendments to the environment.
- Develop a plan for the successful launch of the new website including transferring the domain records and devising a fall-back plan.
The launch of the new site went smoothly. The current site has seen an amazing jump in visitor numbers and usage stats. The site has been up and running successfully for over 6 months on the current infrastructure.
